Dear Chesapeake Feline Association supporters,
Please read the information below as it contains an important announcement regarding the Miss Cat Spay & Neuter Clinic in Perryville, Maryland.
We regrettably announce that the Miss Cat Spay and Neuter Surgical Suite in Perryville (“Miss Cat”) will be closing, effective February 28, 2023. We are grateful to all our Miss Cat staff and volunteers for the work they have put into Miss Cat over the years.
CFA President Karen Burkhardt notes that the closure was a very difficult decision to make, given the spay and neuter needs of the surrounding community. Unfortunately, the continued operation of Miss Cat was not feasible due to the serious impacts of the nationwide veterinary staff shortage and the escalating costs involved in operating the facility.
CFA is in the process of locating new spay and neuter options for its adoptable cats, but otherwise does not expect the Miss Cat closure to impact its North East shelter or adoption programs. CFA will continue to provide resources to the community, including help to find low-cost spay and neuter options in the region. CFA thanks the community for its role in helping control feline overpopulation and will continue to advocate for the community’s needs at all levels of government.
Although this was a very difficult decision, we will move forward and continue to do great things for the cats and kittens who cannot speak for themselves. We have many events coming up and kitten season is right around the corner.
If you are interested in volunteering for CFA at the shelter, at Petco, or as a foster, please complete an application on our website. Kitten season will be here soon, and we are always in need of fosters. Please also visit our website if you would like to adopt a CFA kitten or cat or to make a donation:

We are fully committed to the shelter, our adoption and foster programs, the colonies we support and the community. Thank you all for your continuous support!
Due to limited funding and space, we may be unavailable for intake. In order to maintain a healthy environment for the cats and kittens at the shelter and in foster care, new felines may not be accepted right away. Our volunteers can offer advice or assistance as needed. Thank you!
